Fountain of Life
Psalm 36:7-9
Water fountains capture the attention of people around the world. When we lived in Chicago, IL (USA), I loved visiting the Buckingham Fountain in the center of Grant Park and along Lake Michigan. It is one of the largest fountains in the world and offers viewers a fantastic display of water, light, and music. This fountain delights in the day or night!
For You are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.

As we travel around Israel, we remind our friends of this truth: “Where there is water, there is life.” This region depends on regular seasonal rains for the survival of its livestock, gardens, and provision of drinking water.
How precious is Your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of Your wings. You feed them from the abundance of Your own house, and letting them drink from Your river of delights.
- Psalm 36:7-8
God’s faithful, loyal love is a precious gift to those who seek refuge in Him. One can picture chicks gathered under the wings of the mother hen. They know they are loved and protected as they huddle in this place of safety.
In this Psalm, David presents the picture of an abundant feast hosted by the Lord. This concept evokes a celebration or banquet with lavish and abundant food. And then, David points to water—Your rivers of delight—as an expression of God's covenant-keeping love for His faithful followers.
People gather around sources of water and are captivated by it. Water satisfies our thirst, and we are mesmerized by its sight and sound. We find time to float, swim, and bathe in water. Water helps decrease heart rates and blood pressure and brings peace and calm to our minds and bodies.
In the book of Proverbs, Solomon reminds us …
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.
- Proverbs 14:27
When we turn to the Lord with reverential awe, we will encounter His life-giving fountain. The Lord extends His faithful love to us, and we experience it with every part of our being—body, soul, and spirit. Our heart’s desire for this relationship draws us closer to the Lord. He offers abundant life, just as a fountain continuously showers life-giving water.
Head to Heart
Consider the value of God's faithful and loyal love. Take a moment to express gratitude for His love.
The Lord is our secure refuge, where we find shelter under His mighty wings, protected from the storms of life.
He takes pleasure in blessing us with His delights (good gifts). Do I truly believe that He provides abundantly for my needs?
He is the source of life, offering hope and promise. Lord, shine Your light on my path and guide my steps.
Lord, we ask You to pour out the life-giving fountain of Your unfailing love on all who know and love You. Fill us with Your righteousness and strengthen us to walk humbly with God.
