In our daily lives, we frequently share common hopes. These phrases express a wish or desire for something to happen, usually reflecting a positive outlook.
“I hope it doesn’t rain on our picnic tomorrow.”
“I hope to see you soon.”
“I hope you’re feeling better.”
Sometimes, we use more specific and hopeful expressions. These words often convey a deeper understanding, emotion, or intention.
“I hope you can forgive me.”
“I hope to learn from my mistakes.”
“I hope you achieve your goals.”
Be Strong / Take Heart
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
- Psalm 31:24
The Lord invites us to come to Him, especially during times of adversity or challenge. He is our only true source of hope. When we trust in God’s power and sovereignty, our hearts are open to receive His strength, and our faith develops and grows.
What happens in our hearts and minds when we turn “common hope” statements into truthful phrases about the Lord? I believe positive affirmations will strengthen and sustain our hearts and souls. We will grow stronger in our personal walk with the Lord.
:: My hope rests in the righteousness of the Lord.
:: I hope in the unfailing love of the Lord Almighty.
Find Rest in God
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly, He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
- Psalm 62:5-8
Life’s burdens and challenges often create worry and anxiety in our hearts. Deep inner peace and rest for our souls are only possible when we come to the Lord. God is our source of hope. He watches over us and provides rest for our souls, no matter what trials or difficulties we may face.
We should commit these affirmations to memory and recite them often.
:: He is the source of my hope. “Find rest in God.”
:: He is my refuge in stormy days. “He is my rock and my fortress.”
Head to Heart
Reflect on the words from this hymn, On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand:
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
Thanks for reminding me our hope is in Christ, the solid rock on which I stand !
