My mother loves candles, and as a child, I enjoyed candlelight in our home. The soft glow of a candle inspires me to pause and reflect on the virtues of hope, peace, and joy.
Many people light candles on the Advent wreath during Christmas. This is a meaningful time to reflect, praise, and worship Jesus, the Son of God, who came to this Earth as an infant in a manger.
Jesus is our hope. He is the One we trust and place our confidence in because He came to pay the penalty for our sins. He is our Redeemer, Savior, and King. Even when we face struggles and tough times, this hope enables us to persevere and look forward to the future He has promised (John 14:2-3).
Look at My Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my beloved, and He pleases me. I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will proclaim justice to the nations.
- Matthew 12:18 (NLT)
My Servant | Chosen & Beloved
This beloved servant came to fulfill the will of His Heavenly Father. The prophet Isaiah tells us that He was chosen and came to this earth with a specific mission—an assignment given to Him alone (Isaiah 42:1-4). God the Father takes great delight in His servant.
He will neither fight nor shout nor raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Finally, He will cause justice to be victorious.
- Matthew 12:19-20 (NLT)
My Servant | Gentle & Compassionate
The Servant’s voice will be heard, and His message will be proclaimed. He will not be hostile or violent when He speaks. This chosen one will extend compassion to those who are weak, frail, and struggling. He is our example of humility and gentleness. Justice will be victorious because of the work He will complete.
And His name will be the hope of all the world.
- Matthew 12:21 (NLT)
My Servant | Hope of the World
All of Israel waited with expectation for the Chosen One to come. Yet, God’s plan was more incredible! This One would be a light and salvation to the Jews and the Gentiles. His name will be hope to the entire world.
Embrace Truth | Head to Heart
Take time to light a candle and read these prophetic words from Simeon out loud:
As You have promised, I have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and He is the glory of Your people, Israel!
- Luke 2:29b-32 (NLT)
God sent His beloved Son to this earth. His name is Jesus. Commit your heart to the Lord and place your hope in His Name. Jesus is our HOPE!
The Root of Jesse will spring up, One who will arise to rule over the nations; in Him the Gentiles will hope.
- Romans 15:12 (NIV)
