What do you store on the top shelf of the closet or stash in the corners of your basement? It’s hard to believe how many boxes you can fill when you pack up all your belongings. Moving from one place to another is not an easy task.
The Lord told Abram to leave Haran, his family's homeland, and travel to the land God had promised to him and his wife, Sarai. This call from God was a new beginning for Abram, and the risk was great, yet he obeyed the Lord and set out on a journey that would literally change the history of the world (Genesis 12:1-4).
Abram took Sarai his wife … and all their possessions that they had gathered … and they set out to go to the land of Canaan.
- Genesis 12:5 (ESV)
Perhaps you have moved a long distance or lived in another country. I have friends who have moved due to their assignments with the military or as missionaries. They have met new people and experienced different lifestyles, customs, and practices. They undoubtedly experienced feelings of being out of place, lonely, and without friends.
No matter where you live, there are days when emotions and feelings overwhelm you with sadness. I believe these are the days when the Lord wants us to cling to Him. We are not alone, and He truly is our very best friend!
Abram moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord. And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Negeb.
- Genesis 12:8-9 (ESV)
Abram and Sarai (later to be named Abraham and Sarah) continued to follow the Lord’s leading and direction. They built an altar, called on the name of the Lord, and worshiped the One who was taking them on this journey. These words encourage us because Abram trusted the Lord for His guidance, direction, and provision.
Albert Brumley grew up picking cotton, but he knew he wanted to write songs for the Lord. He was raised in poverty and witnessed two world wars and the Great Depression. Albert discovered that life becomes easier when you walk daily with Jesus by your side.
This World Is Not My Home
This world is not my home, I’m just a-passing through,
my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
the angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord, You know I have no friend like You,
If heaven’s not my home, then, Lord what will I do?
I have a loving Savior up in Glory Land,
I don’t expect to stop until with Him I stand,
He’s waiting now for me in heaven’s open door,
I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Head to Heart
It doesn’t matter where you live, how much money you have, or your position at work. As you journey through life, are you trusting in Jesus each day?
A simple, yet difficult practice: Look in the mirror every morning and speak these words out loud, “Lord Jesus, You are my best Friend, and I am trusting in You today!”
