How can you ensure that you drink enough water each day? First, you determine how much water you should drink each day. Next, you implement practical tips to help you reach your goal. It will take practice to increase daily water consumption.
In a similar way, it takes practice and time to read God’s Word and apply its Truth to our hearts, souls, and minds. We make daily choices to help us practice living our lives – thoughts, words, and actions – for the glory of the Lord.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
- Psalm 139:23-24
The psalmist asks God to reveal his wrong thoughts or actions: "Search the depths of my heart and my thoughts, Lord.” For some, this might seem like a scary request. But it is a place of quiet humility before a Holy God.
He knows if I have strayed or am walking on “the path of everlasting life.” As the hymn writer, Helen H. Lemmel, penned:
O soul, are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
The Lord knows my heart.
The Lord knows my anxious thoughts.
Read those two statements out loud. Do you believe these words are true? Yes! He is more than able to show us the ways we offend Him. But we must be willing to humbly ask Him to reveal the sin and struggles in our hearts. Then, take the next step to confess and seek His forgiveness.
Our Heavenly Father is the righteous Judge. No matter the situation, we can come to Him and ask for His grace, forgiveness, guidance, and direction.
