Have you ever experienced a bumpy ride? Maybe you were riding a bicycle or a horse? Perhaps you were in a car, truck, or bus? It’s an experience you won’t forget quickly. Your hands grip the handlebars; each bounce seems to jar your entire body. Even as I write these words, I’m reminded of a bouncy ride on a moped bike in the Philippines and a jarring safari jeep expedition in Nairobi, Kenya.
This visual metaphor allows me to contemplate the obstacles we encounter in life. They can be unforeseen, or we may find ourselves navigating through a difficult and demanding period in our lives. During these times, we may feel vulnerable, overburdened, and exhausted. How do we find the strength to keep going? What do we hold on to for support?
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
- Isaiah 26:3-4 (NLT)
Let’s pause and meditate on each phrase in these two Bible verses.
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You
Each person (that includes you) who trusts in the Lord
The Lord will wrap you in His perfect peace
All whose thoughts are fixed on You!
Where do I fix my thoughts?
Do I daily choose to focus on the Lord?
Trust in the Lord always
Place my complete faith and confidence in Him
Trust Him always … This takes practice. A consistent choice.
For the Lord God is the eternal Rock
Jehovah – The Eternal God
The Lord is our everlasting strength – The Solid Rock
On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand
William Bradbury
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
In Him, my righteousness, alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
Head to Heart
Take some time now to fix your thoughts on the Lord. He is our source of hope and encouragement. The storms may rage all around us, but when we focus on Him, He will keep us in His perfect peace.
Place your trust in the Lord. He is the eternal and faithful Rock.
