A short letter at the end of the New Testament was written by Jude, the half-brother of Jesus, to early Christian believers. Jude finishes this brief epistle with a powerful benediction.
But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.
- Jude 1:20-21
This greeting highlights Jude’s personal message and his desire for these believers to strengthen their spiritual walk with God. He encourages them to grow in their faith—praying in the Holy Spirit, remaining in God’s love, and eagerly awaiting Jesus’s mercy.
Jude urges us to persevere, and he encourages his readers to keep the hope of the Lord in sight. We have only a short time to wait before we see Jesus, so we must stay faithful to Him.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
