“Abide” by immersing yourself in His Word
“Allow” Jesus’ words to saturate your mind
Returning to our key passage in John 15, we find clear instruction in Jesus’ words.
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” -John 15:7
“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.” -John 15:7
“You are my friends if you do what I command you.” -John 15:14
Are you beginning to see that you can’t do this on your own? We are utterly dependent on God to live the Christian life because it isn’t merely holding to a subjective set of moral principles. Jesus set the example for us and invites us to “Abide in Me.”
