Wait in Silence

Season 22: Abide

Scripture: Psalm 62:1-7

SHOW NOTES:

The vineyard goes through many seasons. The fruit—grapes—is harvested 150-180 days after flowering. When we consider Jesus’ command, “Abide in Me,” we should reflect on the seasons and how to abide.

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
- Psalm 62:1-2

The psalmist finds his deepest consolation in one conviction: God is enough. True peace belongs to those who abide in quietness of heart before Him. Resting in God requires waiting — patience is essential. God is both the strength of His people (“rock” and “fortress”) and the source of their salvation.

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken. My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. My refuge is in God.
- Psalm 62:5-7

Notice that David doesn’t say, “Look to the Lord first, and then see what else might help.” He says, “Trust (wait) in God alone.” Turn away from every other substitute and turn toward the one who is truly sufficient. We do not deny our pain or pretend our circumstances are easy. Rather, we choose, in the middle of the difficulty, to direct our souls toward God rather than away from Him. This is not passive resignation — it is active and intentional surrender. Abiding is an active choice.
